Germany’s Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Wednesday reported the highest number of Corona deaths in one day since February. 527 more people died in connection with the virus. This brings the total number of reported deaths to 104,047. The RKI also registered 69,601 new infections. That’s 2,415 more cases than a week ago Wednesday, when 67,186 were reported. The seven-day incidence dropped to 427.0 from 432.2 the previous day.
The figure indicates how many people per 100,000 population have contracted corona virus in the past seven days. The number of active corona cases in Germany was 961,900, according to the RKI, and the number of corona-intensive patients in hospitals had risen to 4,925 on Tuesday.
Whether the widespread stagnation in the number of new infections and incidence in recent days indicates a leveling off of the pandemic wave or is due to faulty data collection by overburdened health departments, especially in regions with high Corona numbers, is debatable.
A renewed increase in incidence was reported by the RKI on Wednesday from the German state of Sachsen with 1,125.0, followed by Thüringer with 1,028.0, Sachsen-Anhalt with 890.0, Brandenburg with 635.1 and Baden-Württemberg with 507.6. In Bavaria, the value was 493.2. The lowest incidence continues to be in Schleswig-Holstein with 148.7.
